Remodeling can feel overwhelming.
Your heart wants to jump right to choosing colors, textures, appliances and finishes. Your head rolls out an endless list of nagging questions, “Is that possible? Is it going to fit? How many do I need? Will we need a permit, an engineer, a designer? How do you start this process?” Worst of all, your spouse keeps asking the question you couldn’t possibly answer, “Exactly, how much is all of this going to cost?!?”
There’s an old saying, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” Your remodel project is the same. There are no shortcuts. A successful remodel requires planning, time and experience. Over the years, we have honed our process to answer these four questions:
1. “Can it be done?”
During your initial meeting with the owner, Harry will ask you many questions about your project. He will help you define your priorities and help you determine the feasibility of your ideas. He can tell you whether your city will allow what you desire, point out any structural concerns, and give alternative ideas for use of space and layout.
2. “What’s a realistic budget?”
Sometimes, the project is obvious, but the budget remains a mystery. At your initial meeting, Harry will give you a realistic range for your project. If you want your master bathroom remodeled with a jacuzzi tub, all new tile, granite and vanities for $10,000 he will tactfully let you know that is impossible. Because we use an open spreadsheet bid system, you can see where your cost comes from. How much is the tile? How much is granite? How much is the toilet? You will have specific answers to all of these questions, which allows you to make empowered choices.
3. “What are my options?”
How do you choose flooring, backsplash, windows, appliances, cabinets, doors, etc? Where do you go to see your options? How do I stay within my desired budget? How do I get the best price on my selections? Should we buy materials on the internet or at a local brick and mortar? How do I bring the budget down? Once you choose to work with Expert, we will guide you through each selection, helping you create a great project, while keeping an eye on budget during the process.
4. “What about the details?”
During the design phase of the project, you will work from the general, (“What is the layout of the space?”) to the specific, (“Which knobs will I use on the cabinets?”). We will help you methodically work through each decision so you know what to expect. Remodeling is as much process as it is product, so thorough planning upfront will save you time, frustration and money.
